Of a publication at a charity shop revealed
a photo not seen for a long time.
The occasion was the opening of a number of parcels addressed to the
"Commanding Officer 419 squadron RCAF Overseas".
The official photograph taken, most likely
for the people of Kamloops and area of British Columbia who had adopted the Moose squadron.
Victoria Cross Recipient
What makes the photograph special is that it shows a smiling Andrew Mynarski leaning on some of the parcels, in the
center of the photo. P/O Mynarski would posthumously receive the Victoria Cross for
his attempts to save the rear gunner
F/O Pat Brophy from Lancaster KB726.
Kamloops BC
The citizens of the area quite often sent packages to the squadron with large quantities
of cigarettes, magazines and other items. In this case the parcels are reported to contain
moose meat. The squadron operations log mentions these packages a couple of times, usually just
mentioning the cigarettes.
Our Thanks to Dave Donaghy for brining the photo to our attention.
